When you ascend a staircase your hand needs to feel comfortable with the shape and feel of the railing. The size needs to be grippable in order to provide the correct level of safety for you and your guests. You will notice in our catalog that there are some railings that are so wide that they might not provide a grippable surface. In those cases, we suggest that you add a secondary rail to provide a grippable surface.
The railing material that is chosen should complement other components in the staircase. If the other components in the staircase are of another type of material, you may want to secure a material choice for the railing that perhaps matches your entry door or cabinetry that is in close proximity to the staircase.
